On our #AbilityOne contract, employee input shapes the workplace. When our office at Picatinny Arsenal got a new whiteboard, one employee saw beyond its original purpose (to note talking points during meetings) and kick-started a new way for employees to connect! She started writing fun questions on the board, and now, employees’ responses serve as conversation starters at breaks and an easy way to get to know each other—who knew a whiteboard could make such a big difference?

We've been celebrating Halloween all week here at Employment Horizons! Our Cafe Horizons team has been dishing up fun lunches like Jack O'Lantern pancakes and Zombie Loaf and today, our program participants dressed up in their costumes for a fun parade, a pizza party lunch, and cupcake decorating with Kaylee and Halley from our Culinary Arts department!

Shannon is building a diverse skill set at Employment Horizons and in the community—she shares how she recently went on a job sampling at Pet Goods and learned about stocking product, and how she handles multiple duties in our cafeteria, Cafe Horizons!

As Shannon notes, working alongside staff like our Community Transition Specialist Sarah and Kaylee and Halley from our Culinary Arts department helps make it all happen!

It was a great afternoon of fun for our program participants, who showed off some great costumes and brought their families and friends to share in the good times.

One of the Lead Janitors on our #AbilityOne contract had a creative idea that effected real change at work; he conceptualized and created vacuum attachments that can hold helpful accessories, such as a duster that one might need while vacuuming; it’s an innovation that makes the job easier and allows for greater efficiency—check out the duster attachment in these action shots of David and Chris!
